Handloom awareness camp held at Reasi (19 Jan 2015)
Handloom Development Department organised a publicity-cum-awareness camp at Deylote, Reasi to aware wearer and ancillary weaving workers about various schemes being implemented for socio-economic upliftment of the weaving artisans.
Manu Hansa, Assistant director, Handloom Development Department, chaired the programme. The assistant director stressed that the weavers to avail the benefit of financial package under the scheme namely “weavers credit card” so that investment needs as well as working capital needs of the weavers could be met in flexible and cost-effective manner through the ‘NABARD’ by the Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
To avail the benefit, Handloom weavers are required to apply in a bank on the prescribed application form. He advised the weavers to modernize the profession by replacing pit-looms, with fly shuttle/take up motion looms and introduction of new design, so that production as well as the quality of the handloom product shall improve.
Hansa asked all the weavers to register themselves in the department and take benefit of all available schemes. On the occasion, experts of the department delivered lectures on different schemes of the department. On spot registration of weavers was also done.
Hansa assured Weavers every possible assistance from Handloom Development Department and also requested more people to come forward and start their own handloom units and avail benefits of various schemes offered by the department. He said that main aim of organizing this camp is to create greater awareness amongst the weaver community about various state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
Sarpanchs, Panchs and large number of people from adjacent villages of block participated in the camp.
