Road safety awareness created among students (06 Aug 2014)
Wear helmets while driving two-wheelers, says ARTO.
Department of Information in association with Transport authorities have created an awareness of road safety among students at a programme organized at Delhi Public School here at Katra on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering at Delhi Public School, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Rajesh Gupta, said the students had to learn traffic signals initially and obey them accordingly to avert any accident on road. Due to reckless driving of vehicles, accidents were on the rise, he said. Accidents were not only caused by drivers but also by pedestrians, who need to be careful while walking along roads and crossing.
The official stressed the need for wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers.
Passengers, especially students, should be restricted from travelling at footboard in buses. Every school should appoint a caretaker in bus owned by educational institutions in the best interest of the students. Meanwhile, the official said students of eighth standard and above would soon have a curriculum on road safety in syllabi.
Students also expressed their views, whom department of Information also distributed the prizes.
Parvinder Kour District Information officer Reasi, Vikas Shrivats, Motor Vehicle Inspector, also spoke on the occasion. R K Verma Principal, D R Sharma Chief Administrator, Vandna Sharma Headmistress with other staff members and students were also present on the occasion.
