EC holds special camps to encourage enrollment, voters verify poll rolls (05 Aug 2014)
Over 900 new voters register at special camps across Reasi District.
81% record polling in last parliamentary election from Reasi district, Reasi Administration is aiming cent percent polling in the upcoming assembly election. Following the instruction from the Election commission, district administration does not want to leave any stone unturned to achieve the targets.
Administration is organizing special camps and made preparations for the voters to receive forms and check their names on the electoral list since Sunday. Till date, camps were set up at over 300 locations across the district, where booth level officials supervised the process between 9 am and 5 pm.
A copy of the electoral rolls had been pasted on the walls of the polling booths so that voters could check their names. Also, electoral rolls were read out at the camps for the convenience of those who couldn’t read.
At Gulabgarh constituency, 327 people turned up to enroll themselves. Mohmaad Shafi, a resident of the constituency, said, “I enrolled myself as a voter today as I have turned 18 and want to vote for the country. These camps are a great move as it has made it easy for us to enroll.”
District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner, Reasi) Shabir Ahmad Bhat said, “In the Reasi district, approximately 900 voters have enrolled themselves for the first time, in last three days and about 428 were modified, whereas 30 were transposition .” He added the camp were on at all polling booths in the district and the idea behind it was that people could check their names in the voters’ list and new voters could enrol themselves by filling up 'Form 6' on the spo We received a great response.”
Nineteen-year-old student, Pari Sharma also enrolled herself at a camp. “I am very proud to be a voter now. I feel like I am a part of the country,” she said.
The second phase of the campaign will be held on 9 August 2014 at all polling stations across the district
